The referee for the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England has an interesting job on the side.

The referee for the Euro 2024 final has been appointed and his part-time job has emerged.

Spain and England will lock horns at the Olympiastadion in Berlin after winning their respective semi finals 2-1.

La Roja have the chance to win the Euros for the fourth time, while England are looking to be crowned European champions for the very first time.

The Three Lions last triumph was of course all the way back in 1966 when they won the World Cup.

But Gareth Southgate’s side are in a second consecutive final and will be hoping to avenge the Euro 2020 outcome against Italy.

It’s been confirmed that Frenchman Francois Letexier will be in the man in the middle for the final.

It will be Letexier’s fourth game at the tournament after he took charge of two group fixtures and a round of 16 tie.

That encounter was Spain’s 4-1 win over Georgia on 30 June.

He was also the fourth official for the opening game between Germany and Scotland but is yet to take charge of an England game at the tournament.

Letexier started refereeing as a teenager and has taken charge of 65 official UEFA matches – including the Super Cup between Manchester City and Sevilla.

The 35-year-old, who officiated his first Ligue One match aged 26, is also a part-time court bailiff.

“I was attracted to the referees’ work – how they viewed the game, how they took decisions,” he told UEFA last year.

“I struggled early on. It took a lot of time – I had to grow up quickly. Refereeing helped me to get organised and structured.

“I have to thank a lot of people for encouraging me and giving me advice along the way. They helped me to pass each step and get to where I am now.”

Compatriots Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni will be the assistants, with 2022 World Cup final ref Szymon Marciniak serving as fourth official.
