Respected Liverpool journalist names one signing 'he would put money on' happening this summer

Arne Slot is yet to welcome any incomings at Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is yet to make a summer signing following his arrival but that could all change in the coming days.

The Merseysiders appointed former Feyenoord boss Slot after Jurgen Klopp left his post at the end of last season.

With an ageing core somewhat running through Liverpool’s first-team squad, many feel now is the chance to freshen that up.

According to one respect Liverpool-based journalist, the Reds summer could soon be ignited in terms of incomings.

Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon has been continually linked with a move to Merseyside this summer.

Liverpool Echo journalist Ian Doyle recently insisted that he would put good money on the former Everton man being a part of Slot’s squad in the not-so-distant future.

“We definitely think he will end up at Liverpool at some point, I said there wouldn’t be much chance this summer, maybe next summer,” began Doyle.

“Now I am thinking it could be this summer. I know there is some suggestion Newcastle are going to offer a new contract to him.

“But Liverpool offered a new contract to [Luis] Suarez, he signed it, then he left anyway. I would personally put some money on him being here by the end of the month.”

Having joined the club from Everton back in January 2023, Gordon is under contract at St James’ Park until 2026.

Initial reports suggested Newcastle would not entertain any offers for the England international and he would remain an integral part of Eddie Howe’s squad.

After featuring sporadically for the Three Lions at Euro 2024, Howe fully expects the 23-year-old to play a huge role for his side this season.

“I’d welcome Anthony back with three arms if I had them,” Howe said. “He’s an integral part of what we’re doing. We’ve had no conversations over the summer where it has been fractious or negative.

“He’s always been the Anthony Gordon who has given absolutely everything to Newcastle and I want to make that clear to all our supporters.”
