A question about DiJonai Carrington’s incident with Caitlin Clark has sparked some major backlash.
Soccer legend Megan Rapinoe is sharing her thoughts on controversial run-in between WNBA stars DiJonai Carrington and Caitlin Clark — and offering some strong words for the reporter who sparked the drama.
After Carrington’s Connecticut Sun poked the Indiana Fever guard in the eye during last month’s WNBA playoff game, USA Today reporter Christine Brennan questioned Carrington about whether it was intentional.
The question sparked controversy and drew pushback from many around the WNBA, including the WNBA Players’ Association which released a statement calling out Brennan.
Rapinoe has now entered the discussion, saying in her A Touch More podcast with partner and former WNBA star Sue Bird that she found it “racist.”
“My visceral reaction was like: ‘That’s not good. That doesn’t feel good. That feels racist, to be honest,’ ” Rapinoe told Bird.
Brennan has stood by her statement, while USA Today released its own statement saying it rejects “the notion that the interview perpetuated any narrative other than to get the players’ perspective directly.”
