Garnacho missed a big chance late on against Fulham.
Manchester United fans spotted what Ruud van Nistelrooy did at full-time after Alejandro Garnacho missed a late chance in his side’s 1-0 win over Fulham.
United got over the line on the opening day of the Premier League season through debutant Joshua Zirkzee, who came off the bench to score his first goal for the club.
Erik ten Hag’s side made a positive impression in their first league game of the campaign, but couldn’t find the opening goal for large parts of the game despite chances for Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount.
After Zirkzee’s opener, though, United could have had a second goal in injury time through Garnacho.
After Calvin Bassey failed to clear the ball for Fulham, Marcus Rashford ran through on goal and squared to the Argentinian.
But Garnacho appeared to be off-balance before taking the shot, and diverted his effort narrowly wide with the goal gaping.
It was a nightmare moment for the winger, who was looking to back up his Community Shield goal with another after initially being left on the bench by Ten Hag at Old Trafford.
The miss didn’t affect the overall result in the end as United recorded a deserved victory – but it was a moment that Garnacho will likely be thinking about for a few days.
That appeared to be noticed by former United striker Van Nistelrooy, who was appointed by the club as an assistant coach in the summer and will have worked directly with Garnacho in his opening weeks at the club.
And one United fan captured the Dutchman walking straight over to Garnacho at full-time, before appearing to console the winger with a few words of advice.

Speaking earlier this month about what he hopes to bring to United’s players, Van Nistelrooy told MUTV: “We’ve got clear ideas, translating them to the training pitch, and we deliver meetings where we inform the players of everything they need to know. That’s what we’re here for.
“There’s a lot of new faces, but some old faces. When United first came in with the opportunity to become an assistant manager, it was fantastic.
“I never thought of it, but when it appeared, it was something that I couldn’t refuse. Flying into Manchester, seeing Carrington and Old Trafford and how much had changed, and how much was still the same, it’s special to be back.”
