Fans stunned by Cole Palmer’s comment on Declan Rice’s Instagram post after England sealed semi-final spot

Cole Palmer reacted to Declan Rice’s Instagram post after England beat Switzerland on penalties.

Fans have been stunned by Cole Palmer’s comment on Declan Rice’s Instagram after England beat Switzerland on penalties to reach the Euro 2024 semi finals.

The Three Lions found themselves 1-0 down in the 75th minute of the quarter final in Dusseldorf but Bukayo Saka responded with an instant equaliser.

The game went all the way to spot-kicks, where England were utterly faultless.

Palmer stepped up first and was ice cold from 12 yards, with Jude Bellingham, Saka, Ivan Toney and Trent Alexander-Arnold following to make it maximum conversion.

Jordan Pickford made a key save to deny Manuel Akanji for Switzerland’s first penalty to set up a semi final showdown with the Netherlands on Wednesday evening.

Alexander-Arnold sparked incredible scenes behind the goal as players celebrated wildly with the fans.

Midfielder Rice took to Instagram to share his delight, attaching pictures with the caption, “Togertheness. Semis we coming!!!”.

Palmer weighed in with a comment that left plenty of people confused when he wrote: ‘WHOS EMMAAAAAAAAA”.

The remark is a reference to a phrase from ITV 2’s reality dating show Love Island – with contestant Nicole Samuels becoming a meme as a result of her response to new bombshell Emma Milton kissing Ciaran Davies, who she is coupled up with.

Rice replied with the same phrase, writing “who’s EMMMMAAAAR'” alongside a slew of emojis.

One fan spotted Palmer’s comment and wrote: “Can’t believe Cole Palmer watches Love Island”.

It appears as though England’s stars have been enjoying the show while at their five-star Weimarer Land Spa and Golf base in Blankenhain, East Germany.

Ezri Konsa, who made his first start of the tournament against Switzerland, has admitted it is a nightly routine for the players to watch it.

He said: “Love Island — we’re big on that. The boys love it. Every night, a few of the boys come into my room and we watch it.”

England players will be able to have more viewing parties ahead of a semi final with the Dutch at Signal Iduna Park.
