Newcastle desperately line up another huge swap deal after Anthony Gordon transfer failed

Newcastle need to sell players within the next 36 hours.

Newcastle have lined up another swap deal as they desperately try to raise funds ahead of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) deadline.

The Magpies need to sell players before June 30 to comply with PSR rules, with a points deduction among the potential punishments for clubs that fail to do so.

During the early weeks of the transfer window, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Everton have all negotiated swap deals for their academy and homegrown players – with those sales adjudged as pure and immediate profit in the Financial Fair Play records instead of those fees being paid in instalments over several years.

But since the transfer window opened earlier this month, Newcastle haven’t been able to complete any deals that would see them safe from PSR punishment.

According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies put forward a stunning swap deal which would have seen Anthony Gordon join Liverpool, with Jarell Quansah going the other way.

But the Reds rejected that deal, as they have no intention of parting ways with Quansah and are clear of PSR regulations themselves.

Now, Sky Sports claim that Newcastle have turned their attentions towards trying to offload Elliot Anderson, who is one of their academy graduates.

The midfielder is considered as one of the club’s top talents, but Newcastle have reportedly offered him to Nottingham Forest in exchange for former Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga.

The Sweden international moved to the City Ground last summer, and contributed nine assists and five goals in an impressive first season in Nottingham.

Forest paid £15 million to sign Elanga from United and do not need to sell him.

The Athletic, meanwhile, report that Anderson isn’t the only player who has been offered to Forest, with young winger Yankuba Minteh – who spent last season on loan at Dutch giants Feyenoord – also put forward. The 19-year-old has also been offered to Brighton, it has been claimed.

The swap deal between Newcastle and Forest would be completed as separate moves for PSR purposes, but would see a player from each side moving in the opposite direction.
