The striker won’t want to see this one back.
Chelsea forward Marc Guiu may have produced the worst miss of the season during their Europa Conference League clash against Servette.
Enzo Maresca made nine changes to his Chelsea team for the first leg of their play-off against Servette, who currently sit fifth in the Swiss Pro League.
Tosin Adarabioyo and Filip Jorgensen played their first games for the club, whilst Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Pedro Neto, Renato Veiga and Marc Guiu made their full debuts.
Guiu, who joined the Blues from Barcelona this summer, featured for his new club in their Premier League opener against Manchester City, coming as a second-half substitute.
And on Thursday night, Maresca decided to hand him more minutes, although an open-goal miss was one of his more forgettable moments at Stamford Bridge.
Here’s how fans on social media reacted to Guiu’s miss in the 51st minute.
One said: “Marc Guiu with the worst miss I’ve ever seen,” while another commented: “Marc Guiu may have just missed the easiest chance in football history.”
A third wrote: “While the whole world might be shaming Marc Guiu for missing this chance, special mention must go to the Servette goalkeeper for not giving up. Watch closely.”
A fourth said: “That miss is inexcusable,” while a fifth added: “Everyone has off moments, but Marc Guiu’s dedication and hard work are undeniable. He’ll bounce back stronger.”
Guiu, who scored once on the club’s pre-season tour of America this summer, recently said it was his “dream” to play in the Premier League after Chelsea triggered a £5 million release clause in his contract.
“It was a tough decision but it was an amazing opportunity, so I had to go for it,” he said.
“[Enzo] Maresca told me there was an amazing sporting project full of young talent, that he wanted me to be a part of it and that he had a lot of faith in me and my skills and capabilities.”
He added: “I think I’m ready. We work very hard every day both on and off the pitch, on the physical aspect and the practical. So I think I’m ready to be on the pitch and help the team when I’m needed.”
