Discussion turned to the current situation at Chelsea, who started the campaign with a 2-0 defeat to champions Manchester City.

“Chelsea have just got to stop buying players, and players have got to stop signing for Chelsea,” Carragher said.
“I don’t know why, if I was a player, would you look at that Chelsea project – why would you sign?
“The only reason you would sign is, your agent might say, ‘We’re getting a seven-year deal on big money – that’s guaranteed money for seven years’.
“You know what I’d say – back yourself as a player. Sign a four-year deal at a proper club and back yourself to do well.
“Then when you’re due for a renewal, your money goes up anyway. I don’t understand why players are signing seven-year deals.”
Host Dave Jones cited being part of something exciting at Stamford Bridge but Carragher scoffed at the idea.
He then proceeded to let rip on Chelsea bringing Felix back on a permanent deal.

He added: “Part of what?! There isn’t anything there. It’s not a young and exciting team. They’ve bought Joao Felix, right? Tell me where he’s going to play.
“They’ve signed [Pedro] Neto a week ago. Where’s he going to play when they’ve already got Cole Palmer?
“Great football teams need competition but every team I played in, there was seven or eight players who knew they were playing every week.
“And then you’ve got six or seven players who are fighting for three positions and then another six or seven who know they’re squad players. That is a healthy squad.
“You’re asking where is Joao Felix going to play. You know what I want to ask you, where’s he going to get changed in the training ground? I’m deadly serious.
“If you’ve got 40 players, how are you all in one dressing room and how are you putting a training session on? How are you creating that cohesion?”.
Neville offered his view and hinted at some Chelsea players feeling on edge with so many players in the ranks.
Academy graduates Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher have been made surplus to requirements, while Carney Chukwuemeka has been told to find another club.
Raheem Sterling was left out of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the loss to former club City, leading to his representatives posting a controversial statement before the game.
